Henrietta Carleton

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Ruth Carleton was born in 1926 in Henryetta, Oklahoma to Henry and Grace Hall Adams. She met her husband, Allan Brodie Carleton, shortly after graduating from high school and they married on September 10, 1948 in Stillwater, OK. She received her first degree from Oklahoma A&M. After her husband"s death in 1964, Ruth moved with her children to Canyon and wrote and illustrated a book about their journey down Highway 136. She received her B.S. and Master"s degrees from West Texas State University and went on to teach art and science for twenty years at Lawndale Elementary School in Amarillo. She enjoyed watching sports and reading and was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. She also enjoyed going to art lessons with senior citizens in Amarillo. Ruth was also preceded in death by her husband, Allan, her parents, Henry Adams and Grace Adams, a daughter-in-law, Pam Carleton, and a brother-in-law, Bill Wyatt. Survivors include three sons, Allan Carleton and wife, Vicki, of Springfield, Ohio, Howard Carleton, of Stillwater, OK, and Ed Carleton and wife, Torrey, of San Antonio; one daughter, Sue Rapp, of Canyon; a sister, Donna Lee Wyatt, of Borger; brother, John Adams and wife, Louise, of Houston; six grandchildren, Allan Carleton, III and wife, Lori, Chelsea Wink and husband, Brian, Hunter Carleton, Nathan Carleton and wife, Ayoola, Matt Carleton, and Dustin Rapp; and four great grandchildren, Jacob and Jacqueline Carleton, Issac Wink, and Tai Carleton. The family suggests memorials be to the Amarillo Area Parkinson"s Association, PO Box 19721, Amarillo, Texas 79114.
