Helen Olsen

Helen Olsen, 88, died Friday, July 18, 2003 in Canyon, Texas. Services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday July 22, 2003 at Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park, Maryland. Burial will be at Glen Haven Cemetery in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Helen was born in Olyphant, PA to Dan and Mary Sych Kalowsky one of nine children and relocated to Grassy, PA. She graduated from Olyphant High School and Scranton Business College. During the war she came to Baltimore, MD where she lived with her sister's family and worked for Westinghouse Corporation. She was married to William Olsen until 1968. During the 1970's she worked for the State of Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles until her retirement. She moved to Jacksonville, FL to live with her daughter's family, and followed them to Frederick, MD, Canfield, Ohio, then to Canyon, Texas where she has resided at IHS of Canyon for the past 2 A?A½ years. When she lived in Ohio she was actively involved in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program through her church of St. Michael's. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jeffrey Paul Smith. Helen had many friends at IHS of Canyon who made her last years meaningful. Survivors include one son, Dan Olsen of Annapolis, Maryland, one daughter, Donna Smith and husband James, of Amarillo, and three grandchildren, Patrick Olsen of East Port, Maryland, Ltjg. J. Court Smith of Savannah, Georgia, USCG, and Joanna Smith of Amarillo, TX. The family requests memorials be made to IHS of Canyon Activities Fund #15 Hospital Dr. Canyon, TX 79015.
