Helen Kleuskens

Helen Kleuskens, 91, of Hereford, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father John Valdez, Celebrant. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Brooks Chapel.

Helen was born on August 3, 1929 in Umbarger to Max and Rose Hoffman. She was the oldest of seven children. She married Carl Kleuskens on October 11, 1950 in Umbarger.

Helen played the organ for many years at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She and her husband Carl farmed in Deaf Smith County for 58 years. Helen loved her life on the farm, and she could even manage 80 mph on County Road E in a grain truck. Helen enjoyed crafting and expressed an artistic talent for sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and ceramics. She was an avid bowler in her early years and loved tending to her many varieties of flowers. Helen enjoyed singing in the choir at St.Thomas Catholic Church after she moved to Amarillo in 2009. She was always humming a song. Helen would spend hours working jigsaw puzzles and invite all her neighbors to help and then to come and view the finished product.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Carl of 59 years; her parents; her siblings Martha Heymer, Anna Adams, Evelyn Adams, Betty Bourgon, and Maxie Hoffman; a daughter Sandra Whitson; and a granddaughter, Larissa Kleuskens.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Adams of Umbarger; her children Linda Brown and husband Tommy of New Braunfels, Dale Kleuskens and wife Tonya of Canyon; Beverly Adcock and husband Mike of Amarillo; and son-in-law Phil Whitson of Amarillo; grandchildren, Shannon Wallace and husband Clay; Heather Haas and husband Brad; Tracy Benavides; Melissa Metsinger and husband Jeremiah; Brandon Whitson and wife Darcey; Gary Brown and wife Emily; and Brittany Shuffield and husband Andrew; great-grandchildren Zane, Kenzie and Ross Brown; Presley Benavides; Sophia Kleuskens; Stark Henderson; Spencer and Sailor Wallace; Noah, Haddon, Silas, Paisley, and Hudson Metsinger; Taylyn and Braylee Shuffield; Madison and Tommy Sowers and Ryahn Whitson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
