Helen Freidell

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Brooks Chapel with Joe Andrajack, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7, 2013 at Brooks Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, Texas. Helen Nystrom Freidell passed away peacefully on May 30, 2013 in Canyon, Texas. Helen was born July 22, 1931 to Arthur and Esther Nystrom in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a graduate of Wyandotte High School and Secretarial School. On June 19, 1954, she married Theodore D. Freidell in Kansas City, Kansas. While living in Kansas City she worked for GMAC, FBI, Proctor & Gamble, and Burns and McDonnell. The family moved to Canyon in 1971 and in 1986 she began working for the Texas Department of Transportation, and was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Hunsley Hills Golf Club. Even though Helen was not born or raised in Canyon, she always considered it her home. Helen had many loves: her family, golf, dancing, the Kansas City Chiefs, all sports, the wide open sky of Canyon, family reunions, and entertaining. She was also proud of her Swedish heritage. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Carlene Skjervem and Grace Olsson. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the employees of BSA Hospice for their gracious and exemplary care of Helen and her family, especially Maryann, Polly and Joanna. She is survived by her children, Patricia MacMillian, and husband, Gary, of Amarillo,TX, Brian Freidell, and wife, Kim, of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Jon Penprase, and wife, Amy, of McKinney, TX, Chase and Brandon Freidell, of Austin, TX; great-grandchildren, Abby and Anne Penprase, of McKinney, TX.
