Helen Buster had one of the greatest days of her life on February 20, 2026, when she met her Redeemer and Lord. Chapel services will be at 11:00 A.M on Monday, March 2, 2026 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon, TX with David Bagwell officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at Brooks Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Dreamland Cemetery.
She is survived by her sons Daniel Wallace Buster of Tucson, and Duke Alan Buster of Colorado Springs. Duke and his wife, Sally, have three wonderful children, Miles (wife Jordan), Hailey (husband Vince), and Mariah. She also has three wonderful great-grandchildren, Presley, Aiden and Hannah. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Owen Buster, whom she resided with in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and a son, David Steven Buster. Her immediate family included her father Horace, mother Fannie Annette, and her sisters, Jannette, Joan, Gail, Kay, and Kathy.
Helen was born in Troup, TX in 1936. She grew up in Sherman in her father’s lumber yard. She began playing piano and violin at an early age, and she and her sister Jannette had their own music show on the local radio station. Helen played organ and piano for a number of churches over the years. Her husband, Jerry, spotted her at one of the church services she was playing piano for, and talked her into eloping (much to Mother Henry’s dismay, as she had not yet finished her education). Helen married Jerry in 1956 in Ardmore, OK. She then went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree at the University of New Mexico, and then completed her Master’s in Microbiology at Oklahoma University.
She dedicated much of her life to caring for her three sons, Dave, Dan and Duke while Jerry was deployed several times, including during the Vietnam War. Because of Jerry’s Air Force career, she lived in many different states and moved every few years as a result of Jerry’s promotions.
She spent many years on her and Jerry’s farm in Belton, TX, from which she and Jerry moved to Rio Rancho, NM, in 2005. After Jerry’s passing in 2019, she subsequently moved closer to Sally and Duke in Albuquerque, and then to Colorado Springs in 2024. She lived a full and blessed life. We will miss her, but she always looked forward to her future with the Lord, friends, and family.
