H. Carter

December 31, 1969 — January 1, 2011

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Price, Executive Director of the San Antonio Baptist Association, officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. H. D. "Nig" Carter was born west of Canyon on the Ware Ranch in June of 1930. He married Bobbye Dowd Carter in 1950. He was the owner of Carter Dirt and Paving, and his company built many of the streets in Canyon. Mr Carter had a full basketball scholarship at West Texas State University in 1948 and played semi-pro basketball for Phillips 66 in 1949. He served his country in the National Guard as Bayonet Instructor. Nig loved golf with his close friends and was an avid bowler, bowling eleven 300 games. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife of forty-four years, Bobbye Dowd Carter. Survivors include his three sons, David D. Carter and wife, Donna, Robbie F. Carter and wife, Jo Linda, and Joe M. Carter and friend, Sandi Parsons, all of Canyon; two sisters, Mildred Smith, of Olton, and Dorthy Inman, of Midland; five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Dreamland Cemetery, PO Box 38, Canyon, Texas 79015.
