Gloria Gean Pirtle

Gloria Gean Pirtle, 83, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Larry Miles officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Gloria was born on September 17, 1943, in Amarillo to Gene and Gwendolyn (Smith) Sutton and attended Palo Duro High School. She married Richard Pirtle in Amarillo on May 22, 1971, and they shared 55 years of devoted love and wonderful memories.

Gloria worked for the City of Amarillo and PIA Insurance Agency and served as secretary of the Chemistry Department at WTSU, but she valued making a home for her family above all else. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she enjoyed singing—often performing solos at church—as well as reading and spending time in the mountains. An exceptional cook known for her desserts, she taught each of her boys to cook. She dearly loved her grandchildren and cherished her life with Richard. She was a faithful member of Trinity Fellowship Church for over forty years.

Gloria is preceded in death by her father, her mother, her stepfather, Jim Cox, and a son, Derek Pirtle.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Pirtle; three sons, Steve Pirtle and wife, Abby, Tim Pirtle and wife, Amber, and Chris Pirtle and wife, Tiffany; ten grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Peyton, Addy, Stetson, Hudson, Brooks, Eli, Ileigh, and Asher; a sister, Diana Higgins; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity in Gloria’s honor.
