George Barnard

April 11, 1939 — March 10, 2016

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 15 at Brooks Chapel with Bob Miller, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Butch was born to LH and Mary Alice Barnard on April 11, 1939. He attended Amarillo High and married his lifetime sweetheart, Bettye Marie Dubbs, on September 28, 1957. He was a lifelong rancher and mechanic, earning the title of transmission specialist. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who could fix anything. He was a hard-working man with a big heart. He loved to play dominoes and cards, especially "Butch wins!" and was quite the tease. He was a loving husband of fifty-eight years, and cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, LH and Mary Alice; a sister, Betty Charlene Barnard; and infant grandson and great-granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Bettye, of the home; daughter, Connie; son, Chris Barnard and wife, Connie Sue of Melrose, NM; daughter, Paula Galbraith and husband, Randal, of Eufaula, OK; one brother, Bob Barnard, and wife, Toni, of Austin, TX; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren with another two on the way; three nieces, six nephews; and a host of friends in many states. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Lung Association, 8150 Brookriver Dr., Suite 102, Dallas, TX 75247.
