Gary was born on December 2, 1962 in Amarillo to Frank and Creola (Cain) Nebhut. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1981 and began working for Marian Allen Electric. In 1983, Gary began working for ASARCO, retiring in 2015. He was baptized at Grand Avenue Baptist Church and was a confirmed member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He married Susan Blake on July 7, 1989 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of USW (United Steel Workers), Maverick Boys Club, and Amarillo Moose Lodge.

Gary, known as 'Skin Dog' among his neighborhood friends, enjoyed all sports in his younger years, specifically baseball in Kids, Inc. and afternoons at the Maverick Club. Watching wrestling was a favorite pastime of Gary's, especially when he went to KFDA studio to watch events live. Gary also loved the lake, fishing, skiing, camping, and hunting and continued playing softball for many years. He also made time for dominoes, bowling, and pool leagues and was a Dallas Cowboys fan (during their winning seasons). Along side his father, Gary built his house and enjoyed and appreciated woodworking. His greatest love in life was his daughter, Hanna. He enjoyed life to the fullest and truly never met a stranger. He will be lovingly remembered for his generosity.

Gary was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Creola Nebhut; his wife, Susan Nebhut; daughter, Hanna Nebhut and Casey Watson; two brothers, Dennis Nebhut and wife, Leslie of Vici, OK and Ron Nebhut and wife, Shelly of Bushland; one sister, Diana 'Sue' Nebhut of Amarillo; two nephews, Tate and Ditto Nebhut; brother-in-law, David Blake and wife, Jen of Houston; and many cousins. He was grateful to be included in a second family, making memories as a Lusk.
