Gary Mcbride

November 5, 1954 — August 3, 2018

Gary McBride, 63, of Bushland, peacefully passed away at his home on August 3, 2018.  Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 7 at Hillside Christian Church West Chapel with Trae Sweatt officiating.  The family will receive friends on Monday, August 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Brooks Chapel. Gary was born November 5, 1954 in Canyon, Texas to John and Kelli McBride.  Gary grew up in Canyon and was active in various sports and Boy Scouts where he earned the highest rank of Eagle Scout.  After graduating from Canyon High School, Gary went to work for SPS retiring in April after 44 years of service.  Gary was very proud of SPS/Xcel Energy, enjoying his job and all the lifelong friends he made along the way.  After retiring, Gary adopted the phrase, "Every day is a Saturday" and was enjoying his long vacation.  He married Lana Bruton on April 4, 2001 in Amarillo and they created a life together in Bushland.  He loved entertaining in his barn where everyone that entered knew it was "My Barn, My Rules".  Gary was a lifetime member of the Texas Panhandle 100 Club, Member of Coors Cowboy's Club, Tri State Fair Board Member, NRA, and was a supporter of Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, Boy Scouts of America, Snack Pak for Kids Canyon and Wounded Warriors. He was an outdoorsman and loved hunting with his friends, boys and grandkids.  He never missed opening day of dove hunting with one of his best friends, Clint Deeds.  He and Lana enjoyed traveling and their cruises with their friends Steve and Karen Usherwood.  Gary always had a project going on or was helping someone else with one, whether they wanted the help or not.  One of Gary's favorite past times was to simply be around his family and love on his grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and longtime friend, Lee Ragan. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Tyson McBride and wife, Marsha, of Canyon, and Ryan McBride and wife Sarah of Canyon; grandchildren Colton, Jax, Sawyer and Remi; sister Mary Lisa Thorne; brother George McBride; brother-in-law Greg Bruton and wife Lisa; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous special friends. The family suggests memorials be made to any of the organizations that Gary supported.
