Gary Wayne Griffin was born in Amarillo, Texas to the late Louie and Oleta Griffin on July 2, 1949. Gary decided it was time to take his ball glove, ball and cleats and enter his field of dreams on August 15, 2020
Gary graduated from Caprock High School in 1967. He was in the Navy from 1968-1969. He worked at the Amarillo Livestock Auction otherwise fondly referred to as "The Yards" for many decades. After that he became his own boss as a paint contractor and was fortunate enough to have been the painter for T. Boone Pickens ranch for several years. He loved his family above all else. Gary aka DapDap/Papaw loved being a daddy to all of his kids, grandkids and great grands. He loved to hunt for deer, pheasant, and quail. He was in his most peaceful element when he was fishing. Gary once surprised his wife when he purchased a boat that was full of water, but it brought him happiness. He loved being outdoors and spending time at the cabin in New Mexico. Gary loved being a cowboy and everything that comes with it. He loved to watch baseball, especially his beloved Texas Rangers. Baseball/softball is one of the bonds he shared with his kids and grandkids. He loved sharing his love through his cheesecakes (some very complicated recipes). He was never into having indoor dogs until one day Maggie showed up under his favorite boat and became his lap dog.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Teresa Griffin. His five children Christina Clark (Jay) of Little Rock, AR; Bethany Peters (the late Michael) of McSherrystown, PA; Michele Stivers (Philip) of Kempner, TX; Bree Tamplen (Jenn) of Canyon, TX and Jimi Wilmeth (Meghan) of Amarillo, TX and his 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Karen Newberry; and Maggie.
