Galen Friemel

Galen Friemel, 69, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Brooks Chapel. Galen was born on May 4, 1950 in Hereford, Texas to Herbert and Josephine Wieck Friemel. He was a graduate of Hereford High School. In 1972, he married Cathy Hardison. Galen began farming right out of high school. After retirement, he took up the arts of metal working and wood burning. He thoroughly enjoyed making all kinds of specialty metal yard art and wood signs for his family. A minion, a flying pig, birds, frogs, goats and pumpkins are just a few of his special pieces. He also found a love for cooking with an instant pot. Sharing his latest recipes with his children was something that brought him joy. Spending time with his grandchildren was something he looked forward too. He was known for getting all the kids wound up and then leaving as soon as the chaos he had manifested was too much. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roman Friemel and Jerome Friemel. Survivors include his wife, Cathy Friemel; three children, Amy Gist and husband Roger of Umbarger, Jarrod Friemel of Amarillo, and Lisa Arnn of Canyon; five grandchildren, R.B. Gist, Abby Gist, Sawyer Gist, Jadyn Arnn, and Biti Arnn; and his grand dog, Suki. The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
