Freida Gist

Freida Gist, 69, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough and Bob Shepard, officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.

Freida was born October 3, 1953 in Flagstaff, Arizona to Ferrell and Oleta (Tinnin) Abbott. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1972 and attended Lubbock Christian College.

On June 8, 1972, she married Roger B. Gist III in Canyon.

Freida was a homemaker and apartment manager/co-owner. She was a member of the University Church of Christ where she taught the Toddler Bible Class for over 30 years. She served her church family in many different capacities including clothing ministry, food ministry, and student ministry.

Freida loved traveling with her husband, playing games, and spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Kathy Gist and husband, Scott Harrelson; granddaughter, Katelyn Beckwith; mother and father-in-law, R.B. and Bonnie Gist; stepfather-in-law, Gordon Grisham; sister-in-law, Beth Gist; and daughter-in-law, Amy Gist.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Roger B. Gist III; son, Roger B. Gist IV of Canyon and his children, R.B., Abby, and Sawyer; daughter, Lara Leigh Beckwith and husband, Dan of Tampa, FL, and their children, Addison and Austin; son, Jonathan Gist of Canyon; brother, Ted Abbott and wife, Kitty of Addy, WA; sister, Patricia Abbott of Canyon; brother, Mickey Abbott of Canyon; brother, Randy Abbott and wife, Janet of Canyon; brother-in-law, Robert Gist of Colorado Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
