Francis 'Papa' Leochner, 75, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. No services are scheduled at this time.
Francis was born on November 10, 1949 in Colby, KS to Alonzo and Lucille (Morton) Leochner. He married Judy Harrison on September 1, 1973 in Sudan, Texas. He worked in Amarillo for Affiliated Foods for ten years, then at Country Sales and Pawn, then retiring in 2024 from City Pawn.
Francis was a common man, lovingly known for his mischievous and playful disposition. He was a passionate gun collector and loved going to gun shows with his brother, Dennis. He also enjoyed spending time in his shop building knives and jumped at a chance to go fly fishing, most often with a Miller Lite in hand. He dearly loved his many dogs, but his greatest love and most enjoyable hobby was his grandchildren, whom he loved to go shooting with.
Francis is preceded in death by his grandparents and his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Judy Leochner; three children, Jason Leochner and wife, Shonda, Tim Leochner, and Krystal Wait and husband, Derek; nine grandchildren, Chance Wait, Channing Wait and fiancé, Sam, Brittanie Hawkins and husband, Seth, Brandon Anderson and wife, Emmalee, HarLee Hawthorne and husband, Nathan, Maddie Leochner, and Jase Leochner; ten great grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Leochner and wife, Caryn, and two nieces, Tanya Harrison and Crista Bass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
