Florence Stephenson

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. David Lowrie and Rev. Gayle Bowen officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mrs. Stephenson was born on January 9, 1904 in Canyon, Texas to Brent and Dollie Thompson Taylor. She was a member of the Thompson family, a pioneer family in Randall County when Canyon was established. She attended Canyon High School and West Texas State Teachers College. She married Earl H. Stephenson in Siccoro, New Mexico on December 19, 1925. He preceded her in death in 1931. She taught school in New Mexico and then worked as a Riviter during WWII. She also worked at Pantex and then as the bookkeeper for Thompson"s Hardware for thirty years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. She was also preceded in death by one brother, B. C. Taylor and three sisters, Mildred Sullivan, Mary Bailey, and Eva Furlow. Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Barrett, and husband, Dick, of Canyon; four grandchildren, Corky Barrett, and wife, Debbie Ann, of Canyon, Johnny Barrett, and wife, Loretta, of Moore, OK, Bonnie Barrett, of Canyon, and Rodney Barrett, and wife, Debbie Lynne, of Noble, OK; twelve great grandchildren and one great, great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church of Canyon, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or Canyon Healthcare, #15 Hospital Dr., Canyon, TX 79015.
