Ferne was an active member of the First United Methodist Church (now the First Methodist Church) of Canyon since 1975 and a Montessori teacher for about 10 years, touching the lives of many people, children and adults alike, in and
around Canyon. She looked forward to her UMW meetings on the last Tuesday of every month and decorating a Christmas table every year for the annual UMW brunch.
Throughout her life, Ferne enjoyed traveling around the world, for both mission work and leisure, with various friends and family members. She was an avid reader that became accustomed to devouring 3-4 novels a week when time allowed, and she loved telling stories about her life, sharing her experiences with those who would listen. Her pride and joy was making memories with grandkids and making sure each child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and great, great grandchild knew that she was proud of each of their accomplishments.
She is preceded in death by her two sons, Roger and Ernie Wilson, her first husband, Charles Wilson of 45 years, and her second husband, Don Hefner of 11 years.
She is survived by her two daughters, Vickie Matthews (Canyon, TX) and Johnnie Shimp (Rio Rancho, NM); her 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren (with 2 great grandchildren on the way), and 3 great, great grandchildren (with 1 great, great grandchild on the way).
