Farrell Devenport

October 14, 1937 — February 2, 2018

Farrell Aldon Devenport, 80, of Lubbock died Friday, February 2, 2018 in Lubbock.  Graveside services will be at 1:30 P.M.  on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon with Reverend Jerry Huggins, nephew, officiating. Farrell was born in Canyon on October 14, 1937 to Charlie and Novvie Devenport.  He graduated from Canyon High School and attended West Texas State University where he was on the ROTC Rifle Team.  He was a member of the Texas National Guard.  Farrell was an avid quail hunter, fisherman, and boat racer.  In 1965 he won the National Outboard Association International Championship for Unlimited Class IV in Portsmouth, Ohio.  He held the National Highpoint in Unlimited Class IV and set the world competition record in 1965. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart, Debra McDonald.  He was employed as the Local Representative for Otis Elevator Company in Lubbock.  He retired in 1992.  At this time he built and operated Custom Shell, a local pecan shelling plant. Farrell was always involved in supporting his family's projects whether it was building a well house, shop, or greenhouse.  He enjoyed and maintained a large garden and pecan orchard throughout the summer and fall. He is survived by his wife, Debra; a son, Stan Mack Devenport and wife, Suzette; grandsons, Toby Mack and Chad Devenport; great grandsons, Cam and Caleb; and great granddaughters, Bayli, Mikah, Chelsea, Brookleigh, and Lila.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, Verna Bailey, Charline Huggins, and Mattie Ruth Robinson, and by his brother, Edwin Lee (Pug) Devenport.  Surviving sister is Margaret Maddox.
