Matt Wolfington, pastor of First Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at Brooks Chapel.
Evelyn Marie Rose was born on April 23, 1928 in Grand Junction, Iowa to Roy and Eva (Wasson) Robinson, the youngest of eight children. She was a graduate of Grand Junction High School Class of 1946 where she was co-valedictorian of her class. She married Duane Jake Rose on June 20, 1948 in Grand Junction and they moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1950. Their daughter Kathy was born in 1956 and after a short stint in Odessa, Texas, they returned to their home in Amarillo with their second daughter, Kim, born in 1960. The family moved to Canyon in July 1966.
Evelyn was an amazing and wonderful homemaker and worked at the Canyon Methodist Church nursery from 1987 to 2011, retiring at 83 years old. She was an avid reader, combing through every line of the newspaper and reading everything available at the church library and the Canyon Public Library. She was particularly fond of history and politics. She was also a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, giving them her wholehearted support even through the tough years, and she enjoyed following Canyon High School sports as well. She loved crossword puzzles and did them in ink.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband on December 22, 1973 and her daughter, Kim Rose on June 7, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eva Robinson, and her seven siblings and their spouses, Ella Mae Robinson Nicholas (Norman), Elmer Robinson (Lela), Lloyd Robinson, Fred Robinson, Carl Robinson (Lorette), Margie Robinson Flowers, and Ralph Robinson (Virginia), as well as her in-laws, Jake and Alberta Rose, sisters and brothers-in-law, Wava Rose Higgins (Thomas), Wanda Rose Brandt (Jay), Avis Rose, Belva Rose Froisland (Henry), Darrell Rose (Joyce), and Glenda Rose Seil (Herman), and numerous nephews and nieces.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Green and grandson, Ryan, both of Canyon; sister-in-law, Judy Rose Martin (Irwin) of Spencer, Iowa; her special nephew, Fred Hatchett of Amarillo; her special nieces, Evelyn Wynn of Benbrook, Texas and Lillian Robinson of Blue Earth, Minnesota; and her special friends, Erlene Tinsley and Shirley Plain.
A very special thank you for the loving care that she received from the staff in her last home and new family at Skywest Assisted Living in Canyon, and her Gentiva Hospice Care Team.
Because of her late daughter's passion for animals, the family suggests memorials be made to the Humane Society of Deaf Smith County, 3805 Progressive Rd., Hereford, TX 79045.
