Ermyle Cooper

Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2003 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Strauss Atkinson officiating, and Rev. David Lowrie and D. L. Harguess assisting. Ermyle Ruth was born December 8, 1917 to Judge C.E. Hill and Iva Reid Hill in Dalhart, Texas. She attended school for one year in Texline and moved to Dalhart when she was in the second grade. She graduated from Dalhart High School in 1934. She attended West Texas where she met Clay Cooper who was also a student at that time. She taught school in Lesley, Hall County, Texas for two years and while she was teaching she married Clay Cooper on April 18, 1937. They moved back to Canyon, Texas and returned to school. A son, Charles E. Cooper was born September 7, 1939. She was a homemaker, but when world war II caused a help shortage she began helping in their grocery store. From that time on she became a regular helper and partner in the grocery store until they sold the store to their nephew, Benny Cooper in 1969. She moved with Clay and Charles in 1970 to Eureka, Nevada where they developed farm land. They spent from May until November in Eureka and then returned to Canyon. While in Eureka she served as organist and pianist for the Diamond Valley Baptist Church. She served two terms as Canyon Independent School trustee and also served on the board of directors for Dreamland Cemetery. She was a life time member of the Baptist church and a member of the Kings Daughters Sunday School class. She was a member of the Sue Hite Study Club, A.A.U.W., Alpha Delta Pi sorority and several bridge clubs. She was a very energetic person and very dedicated to fulfill her duties and obligations. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Marvin of Dallas and Billy of Canyon. She is survived by her husband Clay Cooper and son Charles E. Cooper, both of Canyon; a sister in-law, Patsy Hill Augstat, of Dallas, and a brother-in-law Jackie Neil Cooper and wife Barbara, of Lake Tanglewood. By nieces Billie Helene Goettsch and husband Robert of Cordell, Oklahoma, Iva Jean Cryer and husband Dale of Canyon, nephew Marvin Hill and wife of Canyon, Nieces Kaye Koerner and husband Gary of Dallas, Cathy Wilson and husband Jack of Lewisville. Nephews Benny Cooper and wife Shirley of Amarillo, Joe Cooper and wife Marge of Tucumcari, NM , Rev. Dan Cooper and Wife Marilyn of Lexington, KY, Nieces Ruth Harguess and husband D. L. of Canyon, Ann Wood and husband Rev Wayne Wood of Garland, Mary Allen of Georgetown, TX, Jimy Cooper, and wife, Pam, of Spring, Texas, Dr. Pat Cooper, of Houston, and David Cooper, of Lubbock.
