Ellen Read

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 26, 2015 at Dreamland Cemetery with Travis Bennett officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Brooks Chapel. Ellen Faye Read was born on September 17, 1927 in Tulia to Douglas and Georgia Gafford. She married Cecil Read on June 22, 1946 in Happy and they moved to Canyon in 1948. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1998. She was a long time employee of West Texas State University and loved her WT students. She was first and foremost a mother and homemaker, and she loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping in her younger years and also enjoyed shopping. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and a grandson, Trent Scott. The family wishes to send a special thank you to Sky West Nursing Home and Interim Healthcare for their loving care. Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Van Schepen and husband, David, of Amarillo; her son, Randy Read and wife, Nancy, of Amarillo; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be to your favorite charity.
