Edna Anne Thomason, of Canyon, passed from this world into the arms of God on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the age of 82 in Amarillo, Texas.

Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held at Brooks Chapel in Canyon on Friday, September 13, 2024 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Anne was born June 26, 1942 in Wellington, Texas to William "Bill" and Mary Alyce Wallace McCarver. Her early childhood home was in Wellington where she spent time riding her bike to the library, playing kick the can outside with her friends and going to the Salt Fork of the Red River. As a child, Anne loved to read Nancy Drew mysteries and spend time with her Dad. He taught her how to shoot a pistol, multiplication tables for school and discipline for achieving goals. During World War II, her Dad was drafted and stationed in Petersburg, Virginia. Anne had vivid memories of visiting him in Virginia and riding a train with her mother across the United States.
Her mother, Mary Alyce, was a loving, strong and caring presence in her household. Anne spent wonderful days learning from her family and working in the garden with her Uncle Henry. As they worked, he would tell her fairy tales. Her love of words, reading, family, and nature probably started with all of the influences from her childhood.
On November 3, 1946, her sister Judy was born. Anne and Judy spent time outside playing, fishing with their dad, hunting and being sisters that supported and loved one another throughout life.
Anne attended Wellington schools until her family moved to Hereford during her sophomore year of school. At Hereford High School, Anne was a twirler, played clarinet in the band, and worked at the McDowell Drug Store soda counter.
After graduating from Hereford High School in 1960, Anne attended West Texas State College. At a dorm mixer, she met the love of her life, Ronnie (Ron) Thomason. That spark ignited into a marriage between the two of them where their hearts became one forever. They were married at the Joseph Hill Chapel on the campus of West Texas State, November 3, 1961.
In the fall of 1962, Ron and Anne moved from Canyon to Ft. Collins, Colorado. The four years spent in Colorado instilled a love for skiing in the Rocky Mountains, picnics on the Poudre River, and camping with church friends in Rocky Mountain National Park. Anne's perspective on the world was shaped by their time in Colorado. She believed that life is full of peaks and valleys, but it is all part of God's plan.
In 1968, God blessed Ron and Anne with the birth of their first son, William David Thomason in Columbia, Missouri. In 1972, another blessing came with the birth of their second son, Mark Allen Thomason, in Canyon.
She loved to learn, taking courses at Yuba College in California and earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree at West Texas State University. Her love of learning turned into a 25-year career as a teacher at Rex Reeves and Crestview Elementary schools.
After retiring in 2004, she worked at the Canyon News as an editor and writer. She loved being part of a newsroom and the people that were at the Canyon News.
Her love of family and friends remained at the heart of all she did. She was a young and free-spirited woman, remaining creative in what she wrote and how she lived. She was a loyal WT supporter and Buff athletics brought tremendous pleasure to her life. Saturday movie dates with Ron were fun times. Adventures in other countries with Ron and friends brought exciting times. Her best trips were those where they were going to see family.
She was blessed with a wonderful University Church of Christ family. Her love of the Lord established a firm Christian foundation for her family. She was a woman of strong Christian faith who volunteered in the community and with the University Church of Christ ministries. She was a woman that found joy in serving high school and college students in Canyon, making lifelong friendships with those of all ages. She cherished the time she spent with her friends who shared in the joys and grief of each other's lives, creating bonds that will last forever. Her legacy of love is instilled in the hearts of her family and friends and will continue in their hearts and lives. She is greatly missed.
