Edel Money, 88, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. Services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Brooks Chapel with Wayne Williams officiating. Private interment will be in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Brooks Chapel.
Edel was born on January 9, 1936 at home in Canyon to Thomas and Flossie (Fortner) Money, the 4th generation of Money's brought here by cattle drives in the 1800's. He attended Canyon schools where he enjoyed playing basketball and was named the 'Smile King' at Canyon High School.
Edel married Jo Nell Jones on July 24, 1955 and they lived in Boulder, Colorado for a short time before moving to Canyon to help with the family farm. They had three children, Tammy, Tommy (Tom), and Timmy (Tim). Jo Nell preceded him in death on September 12, 2020.
Edel started a business building barbed wire fence and was known for over 60 years around the Panhandle for his expertise, claiming he had his 'Ph.D' in post hole digging. He treasured his herd of Black Angus cattle that he raised, and enjoyed westerns, watching bull riding, and going fishing. He especially enjoyed a good rain and watching the grass grow or spending time playing dominoes with the 'Domino Group of Canyon', some of his dearest friends.
Edel's family and friends will affectionately remember his big smile, extraordinary work ethic, and his willingness to always lend a hand.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Money-Brooks and husband, Dennis; two sons, Tom Money and wife, Francie and Tim Money and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Timothy and wife, Kayla, McCall, Trey 'Tiger', Madison, Tucker, Candace, and Lindsey; along with numerous great grandchildren that make up the 7th generation.
