Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Happy Cemetery under the direction of Brooks Funeral Home of Happy and Canyon, with Robert Lee, friend, officiating. Ed was born on February 25, 1920 to Jeff and Molcie (Hunt) Davis in Silverton, Texas. He spent his youth working with Jeff, drilling water wells in the Silverton area. He also worked with the Civilian Conversation Corps, better known as the C.C.C in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, helping build the old rock buildings during the great depression of the 1930"s. Ed joined the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving throughout the war in the Pacific Theater. He served as a Ship Fitter and Gunner"s Mate on the LST 961. The LST transported troops and supplies between the Philippines and Okinawa. He was a water well driller and windmill man in the Happy area since 1954. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel in 1988, both parents, his son, Vernon Ray Davis, two brothers, Jack and Joe Davis, and four sisters, Peggy Cole, Wilma Perkins, Dorothy Burk, and Lois Tidrick. Ed is survived by two daughters, Shela Davis and Lillie Shipman of Canyon; a sister-in-law, Tena Davis of Silverton; and other relatives and friends.
