Duane Neill

Services will be 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Church of Christ at the Colonies, with Dick Marcear, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery, Canyon, TX. Duane Neill was born on October 10, 1940 in Eunice, NM to Seth Roy and Georgia Mynan Cooper Neill. After graduating from Texas Tech University, he served as a Lt. Commander and Officer Candidate School instructor in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Elaine Plate on August 20, 1964 while stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. After receiving his law degree from Texas Tech University, Duane returned to the Navy and served in the JAG Corps. Upon completion of his last term in the Navy, Duane worked as an attorney in Lubbock. He and Elaine moved to Canyon in 1978 and he worked in Amarillo as an attorney for the Internal Revenue Service until retirement. Duane was a student of life and never tired of pursuing new hobbies and interests. He will be fondly remembered for the passion with which he pursued his many interests. Among his many hobbies were playing tennis, his friends, building with adobe, playing the guitar, jewelry-making, engine-repair, and gardening. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and built his own Vellamobile. He loved the mountains and exploring Taos. Duane was a member of the Church of Christ at the Colonies. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of the home; a son, Derek Neill and wife, Charleine, of Canyon; a daughter, Jennifer Hataway and husband, Jayson, of Borger; a sister, Roylan Sullivan, and husband, Jason, of Ozona, TX; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, P.O. Box 7448, Amarillo, TX 79114.
