Rick Enns, pastor, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday at Childress Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on September 22, 1925 in Vernon, Texas to Fowler and Ola Grace (Hix) Skipworth. She married Clois Earl Rowland on September 5, 1942. They were married for 76 years before he preceded her in death on May 1, 2019.
Dorothy was always a devoted mother, but through the years she worked at Amarillo Hardware, as a switchboard operator, then Sears and Save-A-Stop in the furniture department before operating a daycare center from home; however, her most cherished occupation was motherhood. Her family will lovingly remember her ability to work full time and still be able to mother her family with great expertise and love.
Dorothy and Clois were committed and faithful members of the First Methodist Church in every town they lived in. They enjoyed serving as youth pastors together and Dorothy was extremely involved in Methodist Women, starting very young serving and hosting events. Most recently, they were members of First Methodist Church of Canyon and loved their Crusaders Sunday School Class.
For many years, Dorothy worked alongside Clois, helping with anything he endeavored to do. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting and knitting, but her greatest love was for her family and friends. She gracefully endured the loss of many family members and held the family together in the face of every trauma. Her family will remember her strength of character and her love for the Lord. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren will treasure many memories of their 'Mamaw.'
Dorothy is also preceded in death by her three sons, Jimmie Earl, Bobby Wayne, and Roy Henderson Rowland as well as three grandchildren, Jansen Tate, Shondra, and Jamie Rowland. She lost her three beloved sisters and two brothers over the years.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Stone; nine grandchildren, Stacy Tucker, Brec Stone, Sarah Stone, Bobby Shane Rowland, Kevin Rowland, Chad Riddell and wife, Mary, Jaclyn Daniel, Jennifer Jones-Booth, and Jatana Lowe; sixteen great grandchildren, Justin, Grey, Addison, Preston, Payton, Inigo, Q. Clois, Blake, Aubrey, Brooklynn, Bryson, Jaci, Jacob, Bryan, Brittany, and Jansen Riddell and wife, Bailee; eight great, great grandchildren, Caroline, Avery, Zoey, Bailor, Emmerson, Piper, Jaylyn, and Cali; and two beloved daughters-in-law, Brenda Overstreet and Marlynn Houchin Gray. Dorothy maintained close relationships with her niece, Donna Jean Oliver, and her daughter, Dana Logston.
