Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24th at Hillside Christian Church, 6100 S. Soncy Rd, Amarillo, TX with Rev. Neely Landrum of Fort Stockton and Rev. Curtis House of Amarillo officiating. Dorothy was born June 4, 1917, in Jones County, TX, to Dee and Elma Hager. She was a member of Hillside Christian Church. She married her first husband, Tony T. Burrus, in March 1934 in Oklahoma. She married Joe A. Powers on March 29, 1977 in Canyon, TX. Dorothy worked at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas for several years until her retirement. Dorothy was never happier than when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She loved cooking for her family and one of the main requests was her delicious fried chicken. She also loved her garden and flowers. She was always excited to see how big the tomatoes would grow and how bright the roses would bloom each year. Dorothy is preceded in death by both of her husbands; her parents; 4 brothers, J.B. Hager of Panhandle, Carl 'Jelly' Hager of Wichita Falls, Clarence Hager of Ryan, OK, and Clifford Hager of Ryan, OK; 3 sisters, Gladys Knowles of Ryan, OK, Ruth Stine of Ryan, OK, and Edda Mae Gates of Amarillo; and a son, Charles Burrus of Amarillo. Survivors include three sons, Jackie Burrus and wife Martha of Childress, Robert Burrus and wife Linda of Vernon, Tony Burrus and wife Cindy of Canyon, a daughter, Patricia Morgan of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren, Sabrina Landrum and husband Neely of Fort Stockton, Shelly Breeding and husband Randy of Childress, Sharece Prince and husband Mike of Childress, Tracy Williams of Vernon, Andy Burrus and wife Jennifer of Eastland, Tawna Haggard and husband Jeff of Canyon, Bobby Burrus and wife Carrie of Vernon, Brad Burrus and wife Anna of Pensacola, FL, Todd Burrus of Amarillo, Holly Lamb and husband Jonathan of Cedar Park, Amanda Robertson and husband Jarrod of Amarillo, Kendra Potts and husband Jim of Corpus Christi, Jase Morgan of Amarillo, Tiffany Robinson and husband Taylor of Birmingham, AL, Bret Burrus and wife Erin of Canyon; 33 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to Compassion International Fund, Hillside Christian Church, 6100 S. Soncy Rd, Amarillo, TX 79119 or a charity of your choice.
