Dorothy Hotchkiss

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Dorothy Jane Hotchkiss was born on June 17, 1919 in Plainview to Edward and Ethel Daily Morehead. She graduated from Plainview High School and attended Wayland Baptist University. She married John S. Hotchkiss on May 17, 1942 in Clovis, NM. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1995. Dorothy and John owned the Triangle Motel in Lampasas from 1950 to 1964 at which time they acquired the Historical Lamplighter Inn in Floydada, built by Dorothy's grandparents. After retiring in 1991, they moved to Canyon. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon and Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy had a genuine interest in people that won her many friends. She dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by all of her siblings. Survivors include her daughter, Susan Richardson and husband, Jody, of Canyon; her son, Sam Hotchkiss and wife, Dana, of Pearsall; five grandchildren, Melanie Hotchkiss, Tamra Wash, Kevin Richardson and wife, Darcie, Kurt Richardson and wife, Jennifer, and Kris Richardson and wife, Brooke; eight darling great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family suggests memorials be to the Media Library at the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, The Gideons International, PO Box 405, Canyon, Texas 79015, or cash donations may be made to The Cottages at Quail Creek, 6111 Plum Creek Dr., Amarillo, Texas 79124.
