Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Don Hefner was born on December 28, 1939 in Plainview to Otto and Della Trimble Hefner. He attended Kress High School. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Winstead Hefner after 35 years of marriage. He was married to Ferne Wilson for the last 12 years. Don was a truck driver and retired from Groendyke Transportation after 43 years. He was a Mason and a member of the Canyon City Lodge #730. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon where he attended the Pathfinders Sunday School Class. Don loved working in his garage doing his woodwork. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons. Survivors include his wife, Ferne Hefner, of the home; a son, Casey Hefner and wife, Rae Ann, of Canyon; a daughter, Amber O'Gorman and husband, Jason, of Pampa; five grandchildren, Trey, Tristen, and Trenten Hefner, and Shelbie and Caleb O'Gorman; a sister, Juanita Atkins, of Shamrock; and two step-daughters, Vicki Matthews, of Canyon, and Johnnie Shimp, of Rio Rancho, NM. The family suggests memorials be to the Canyon City Lodge #730, 909 9th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
