Delbert Walker

July 18, 1939 — October 23, 2015

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 28 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. Delbert M. Walker, age 76, let go of his earthly bonds on Friday, October 23, 2015 to join his heavenly father, surrounded by his family. Del was born July 18, 1939 to Ray Milton Walker and Mary Alice Walker (Robbins) in Durango, Colorado. He was the middle child out of eight. He enjoyed many adventures and misadventures with his brothers and sisters that continued into adulthood. He joined the National Guard and then Air Force at a young age and saw many parts of the world. He attained the rank of Master Sargent and served our country for 22 years. He retired in 1980. Del was a proud Vietnam veteran. He was awarded a commendation and many other high honors. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked at Brewer's in Altus, Oklahoma for 18 years where he was loved like family. Del's greatest love and joy was his family. He was married to Jan (Fields) and to this union three children were born, Nicholas, Stacy and Jackie. They later divorced, but remained lifelong friends. He later married Carolyn (Singleterry) and was blessed with Aimee. They later divorced and he married the love of his life Donna Freeman. Del adopted Rebecca and Jason and loved them as he did his biological children. Del loved to hunt, fish, camp and anything to do with family. He was happiest when he was spending time with family. He was a man of few words, but his smile could light up the room. He had an infectious laugh. He had a way of sighing very deeply instead of using a negative word toward his children. We always knew we were in trouble if he did that. He attended every sporting event, school program or event that his children or grandchildren were in if he was able. He was a well known baby whisperer. His parents, sister Violet, brothers Lee and Ernie, son Nicholas and a grandson Travis, preceded him in death. Del is survived by his wife Donna; daughter Rebecca (Dale) of Meridian, ID; daughter Stacy (Don) of Watkins, MN; daughter Jackie (David) of New Baden, IL; daughter Aimee of Haltom City, TX; son Jason (Amanda) of Killeen, TX; 12 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister Bess (Bill) of Lake Havasu, AZ; brothers Duane of Phoenix, AZ; Cliff (Morreen) of West Minster, Colorado; Bobby (Susie) of Durango, CO; sisters-in-law Lori and Sandi Walker. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 26 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brooks Chapel.
