Dean Butcher

Dean Butcher, 82, of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Brooks Chapel with a visitation to follow. Private burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis.

Dean was born on July 5, 1940 in Yuba, OK to Oscar Lee and Hattie (Denton) Butcher. He married Betty Joyce Floyd in Dallas on March 12, 1962. He was in law enforcement for 39 years serving in Dallas, Canyon, Hereford, Tulia, Silverton and serving lastly as Sheriff in Hemphill County. Upon retirement, he and Betty resided in Canyon.

Dean was a member of the University Church of Christ in Canyon. He was also a member of the Sheriffs' Association, past president of the Texas Chief Deputies Association, and a dedicated member of the NRA.

Dean loved horses, rodeoing, and anything connected to cowboying. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest enjoyment came from supporting his sons and his grandchildren in their high school sports. Dean was the Number One Fan of the Canadian Wildcats. His life's motto was "Committed to serve my fellow man" and he took great pleasure in helping the elderly.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, James Butcher, Bernice McPhearson, Ruth Brown, and T.S. Butcher.

Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Betty (aka Sachemo Boogie) Butcher of Canyon; son, Mike (aka Bulldog Mike Coneski) and Suzanne (aka Pleshette) Butcher and their children, Nichole (aka Neecole), Megan (aka Meg on), and Abby (aka Al the wild one) all of Pittsburgh, KS; son, Colby (aka Moose Scawl Goinlente) and Trina (aka Trina Lou) Butcher and their children, Caleb (aka Cool Man McGraw), and Tate (aka Hit Man) all of Bushland; son, Trent (aka Fat Track) and Pamela (aka Pamalie) Butcher and their children, Alexis (aka Four door Lexus), and Christian (aka Wild Man) all of Happy; and his sister, Lois (aka Lawder Catch) Ziegler of Silverton.
