David Ervin Mitchell, 77, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Larry Brock officiating.
David was born on August 18, 1948 in Perryton, Texas to James Ervin and Emma Marie (Cooper) Mitchell. His family resided in Balko, Oklahoma where he grew up helping his dad on the family farm. A 1966 graduate and valedictorian of Balko High School, he received his BA in Accounting from Oklahoma State University.
David married Carol Johnson in Happy, Texas on April 22, 1989. They lived in Amarillo until 2002 when they built and made their home in Canyon. The majority of his career was spent as an accountant for Cactus Feeders at the corporate office in Amarillo. He then continued performing tax work until 2024. David loved nature and working in his yard. He enjoyed watching the birds and feeding the deer, but next to his family, his greatest passion was golf.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Carol Mitchell of the home; five children, Brad Mitchell of Oklahoma City, OK, Natalie Mitchell-St. Aubin and husband, Karl of Yukon, OK, Tricia Kaminski of Needville, TX, Monte Foster and wife, Holly of Canyon, TX, and Dianna Brock and husband, Paul of Bushland, TX; 14 grandchildren, Braden and Kaylee Mitchell, Aspen and Hayden St. Aubin, Chelsea Wilkerson and husband, Thadeus, Owen Kaminski, Ruby, Max, Henry, Sam, and Rose Brock, Tyler Ramsay and wife, Abby, Brianna Wren and husband, Nate, and Reesey Leal and husband, Kobe; five great grandchildren, Kileah and Karlee Wilkerson, Hadley Ramsay and Tinley and Jonathan Leal (with another one on the way); two brothers, Doug Mitchell and wife, Elaine and Dale Mitchell and wife, Maria all of Balko, OK; and several nieces and nephews.
