David Martinez

April 14, 1994 — June 7, 2024

David Patrick Martinez, 30, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024. A service will be held on Friday, June 14 at 10 am at Living Water Christian Fellowship Church. A private burial will follow. Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Thursday, June 13 at Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

David was born April 14, 1994, in Amarillo to Daniel Martinez and Danee' Puga. He graduated from Canyon High School, later becoming a welder and working for Amarillo Tanks.

Most important to David was his family and friends. He shared a very special bond with his parents and his brothers and was a very proud Uncle Davie to his nephew, Casey. He never met a stranger, welcoming everyone with an open heart. Many called him friend, buddy and bro. He appeared to live by a mantra based on his favorite song lyrics by Nirvana – "Come as you are, as you were, as I want you to be, as a friend, as a friend."

David found peace and joy when it was just him, his guitar and a song in his heart. He loved all kinds of music and could play anything from Marty Robbins to Nirvana.

An avid sports fan, David would be found on any given Saturday watching college football, yelling "Boomer Sooner" with his mom. Then, Sundays it was time to cheer for the Denver Broncos - even though the last few years it has been challenging to remain a proud Broncos fan.

David is preceded in death by his grandfather, Leroy Powers; great grandfather, Genaro Cruz Martinez; uncle, Ed Hodo and cousins, David Moseley and Johnny Ricker.

Survivors include his parents, Jorge and Danee' Puga of Canyon and Daniel and Jody Martinez of Amarillo; brothers, Daniel (DJ) Martinez, Dakota Puga and wife Jacee, Lukas Martinez, Brayden Martinez and Eric Martinez; stepsister, Jordan Birch; nephew Casey Puga; grandparents, Patti Powers and Robert and Esther Lopez; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

For those attending the service, the family asks you to consider honoring David by wearing your favorite sports attire or rock music t-shirt.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to The David Martinez Music Scholarship Fund at Canyon High School.
