David O. Hunt, 70, of Canyon, died Friday, May 9, 2003 in Amarillo. Services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 12, 2003 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. David Lowrie, pastor, and Dr. Strauss Atkinson, Pastor Emeritus, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Hunt was born in Haskell County on September 24, 1932, the son of David O. Hunt, Sr. and Willie Mae Hunt. He attended school in Rule, Texas where he was an outstanding football player. He graduated from West Texas State College in 1955 with a degree in Business Administration and went on to serve with the U.S. Army in Korea for two years. Upon his return in 1957, he married Carolyn Honea in Rule. After moving his family to Canyon in 1964, he worked as an accountant for Affiliated Foods, Deaf Smith Feed Yard, and Kilgore Children's Psychiatric Hospital. He retired in 1995 from Nunn Electric Supply after serving in many capacities for this company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and several professional organizations. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Hunt, in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; two sons, Michael Hunt, and wife, Chip, of Amarillo, and Kyle Hunt, and wife, LeeAnn, of Chandler, AZ; two grandchildren, Joshua and Allison Hunt; two sisters, Joyce Wooten, of Canyon, and Tommie Wright, of Austin; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice 1000 S. Jefferson Amarillo, TX 79101.
