David Jerrell "Deke" Carthel, 81, of Fort Worth, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Amarillo after a struggle with lung cancer. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Chris Carthel officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 9, 2020 at Brooks Chapel.
David was born March 27, 1939, in Silverton, Texas to Lois Herbert "Jake" and Minnie Azalea Carthel. He graduated from Amarillo High School and was subsequently drafted into the U.S. Army in 1961. He met and married his wife Sandra in Hereford, Texas in 1964. He worked in the flooring business there, in Amarillo starting in 1971, and in the Dallas/Fort Worth area beginning in 1989 where he continued to work in the flooring business until his retirement. His favorite activities included camping, motorcycle riding, time with his family, and most of all worship of his Savior Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Carthel; his daughter, Christi Kendrick; sons, Monty Wheeler and wife Debbie, and Chris Carthel and wife Ginger; grandchildren Sabra, Randi, Cody, Colton, Kara and Graceson along with great grandchildren.
David is preceded in death by his father Lois Herbert, his mother Minnie, his brothers Charles and J.D., and sister Marie Daniel.
