Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. D.D. "Don" Blankenship was born on May 26, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to Horace and Clara Buchmeir Blankenship. He was a graduate of Wamego High School in Wamego, Kansas and began work with Santa Fe Railroad. Because he was only 18 years old, he received his MinorA?A??TMs release in order to continue working. He left Santa Fe to join the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He returned to Santa Fe and worked until his retirement in 1987. He married Corrine Yarbrough in Amarillo on July 1, 1965. Don was a member of Canyon Lions Club, Masonic Lodge #730, and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Survivors include his wife, Corrine Blankenship, of the home; six children, Milton Paul Lauer, Jr., of Paris, TN, Virginia Bonstaff, of Houston, Sheri Rios, of Canyon, Gary Lamont Jenkins, of Lake Tawakoni, TX, Melvin Neal Lauer, of Indiana, and Martin Jenkins, of Seabrook, TX; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
