Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, May 20, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. David Lowrie, Jr., pastor of First Baptist Church of El Paso, Texas, officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Private Interment Dreamland Cemetery Christine Harrell McGlasson was born on June 6, 1925 in Paris, Texas to Eugene and Maude Fry Harrell. She graduated from Paris High School in 1942 and received her B.A. from Baylor University in 1946. Following her graduation, Christine worked as a church secretary and legal secretary in Harlingen, Denton and in Amarillo where she met and married Gene McGlasson, Jr. on February 1, 1952. She also attended West Texas State University from 1955 to 1961 where she received her teacher certification and worked as a substitute teacher in the Canyon School District. She was a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church of Canyon, and was a member of the Sue Hite Study Club, High Plains Baptist Hospital Auxiliary, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum Auxiliary, and she was on the Board of Randall County Unit of American Cancer Society and was Coordinator of the Road to Recovery program. During her life, Christine survived cancer two times. In July 2004, she moved to an independent living retirement community in Franklin Tennessee to be near her daughter. In Tennessee she became a member of Woodmont Baptist Church. Her interests included reading, travel, and bridge with friends, and during the last two years, playing with her granddaughter was a great joy. Christine"s life centered around her family and her love of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Calvin Harrell. She is survived by a son, Dan McGlasson, of El Paso, TX; a daughter, Julie McGlasson, of Franklin, TN; and one grandchild, Jada McGlasson, of Franklin, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Canyon, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015, or a favorite charity.
