Chloe Ann Black

July 9, 1931 — August 23, 2022

Chloe Ann was born July 9, 1931 in Canyon, Texas to James and Alice (Caraway) Black. Her life of 91 years, ended in this world and began in Eternity late in the evening on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Abundantly Blessed Care Home in Amarillo. She had resided at Palo Duro Retirement home since 2013.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2022 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Andy Blair, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors.

Chloe Ann spent her life as a quiet, private person with a huge heart, great mind, and love for many, especially those in need.

After graduating from Canyon High School in 1949, she attended three semesters of college at West Texas A&M University before pursuing a career in banking at the First National Bank of Canyon. She retired after 44 years as Senior Vice President and cashier. Work and discipline were ways of life for Chloe Ann and she loved her job and the people she worked with on a daily basis. Many of whom still have fond memories of her. After retirement, she continued to serve voluntarily as treasurer of Canyon Senior Citizens from 1999 to 2019. Chloe Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, and previously served as treasurer there also.

Although Chloe Ann never married or had children of her own, she became a type of matriarch to her family after her mother had passed. She lovingly opened her home and cared for many whenever they needed anything.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Alice Black, her brothers, Billy Black, JM Black, and Roland Black, her sisters, Betty Schneider, Katy Byrd, and D. Jelma Smith, and a sister-in-law, Deta Black. Survivors include her many great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Canyon Senior Citizens, 1719 5th Ave, Canyon, TX 79015 or to Abundantly Blessed Care Home, 3311 Otsego, Amarillo, TX 79106.
