Charles Randal Walsh, 67, of Sunday Canyon, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026. Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Brooks Chapel with Father Scott Raef, pastor of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Randy entered this world July 7, 1959, the second of four rambunctious boys born to Joseph Edward and Rheta Kay Latimer Walsh. After graduating from Amarillo High School in 1977, Randy received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from West Texas State University in 1983, with emphasis on wildlife management.
From Amarillo Randy moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he spent eight years at Zoo Atlanta, concentrating on the care of big cats, followed by two years at The Dallas Zoo, where he used his innate ability with animals to care for the elephants. He left Dallas in 1994 to move back to the panhandle with everything but the end of a finger, which he left with a rhinoceros.
Randy then moved into the wrangling field and ran the riding stables in Palo Duro Canyon. His gentle nature and instinctive connection with the horses was a perfect match. He spent 31 years living in the tight-knit community of Sunday Canyon, which was home when he completed his working career in 2022 as a health inspector with City of Amarillo Environmental Health.
While working on his degree at WTSU, Randy met his soulmate, Brenda Hays. Although they parted ways during college, it was 25 years later that the frozen food section of United Supermarket provided a springboard for an accidental meet-up that led to 20 years together until his death. Randy became a donor to Life Gift following his passing, continuing his giving spirit to help others live their best life through organ and tissue donation.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda, and four pups, Annie Pants, Tilly, Toby and Tessie of Sunday Canyon; amazing bonus daughters, Krysta Reed (and husband, Michael) of Ft. Worth and Lindsey Wheatley (and husband, Miles) of New Home; and a special bonus son he helped raise years ago, Casey Dickerson (and wife, Lyndsey) of Canyon. Randy was Papa to grandchildren, Collin and Heidi Reed, Orion Allgood and Corbin Wheatley. He is also survived by brothers, Rocky Walsh (and wife, Trish) and Shannon Walsh (and wife, Susan), and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alan Walsh.
The family asks memorials be to Friends of Texas Panhandle Shelter Pets, 24521 Canyon Dr., Canyon, TX 79015.
