Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Gene Jones, associate pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Brooks Chapel. Memory Gardens Cemetery, Amarillo, TX Charles Peckenpaugh was anxious to be born on a family trip to Corpus Christi, Texas on August 2, 1926 to Leona and Ben Peckenpaugh. He was raised in Farnsworth and attended Perryton High School until he was drafted to serve in World War II. He distinguished himself with the Military Police in occupied Japan. Upon returning to the United States, he attended West Texas State University. He met the love of his life Claudine Foster, and they were married on August 14, 1948. She preceded him in death in 1997. Charles became a Canyonite by participating in Jay Cee's, National Guard, and Scout Master of Troop 66. He was employed by Pantex Plant for over 35 years. He became an active resident of Palo Duro Village until 2009. Charles was always quick with a joke and a smile. He never met a stranger and always had the best stories for his grandchildren. He truly had a heart of gold. Survivors include a son, Charles Ben Peckenpaugh and partner, Victor Henry, of Houston; a daughter, Pennie Mathewson and husband, John, of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Zach Sarles, Lance Corporal Logan Mathewson, John Mathewson, IV, Jennifer Rucker and husband, Robert, Charlie Peckenpaugh, and Alicia Pursch; and two great grandchildren, Jasmine Sprague and Brenna Sims.
