Charles Newton

Services will be 1:00 p.m.on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at Brooks Chapel with Pastor Terry Callis, pastor of First Assembly of God, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. Charles "Charlie" Newton was born on September 25, 1941 to Maud Browning and Jessie Norman Newton in Charleston, Mississippi. He moved to Canyon in 1958 from Greenwood, Mississippi. Charles married Jaunita Ellis in Canyon on August 30, 1963. He worked for the City of Canyon as superintendent of Public Works for 38 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Newton and Sister, Myrtle Russel. Survivors include his wife, Jaunita Newton of the home; son, Thomas and wife, April Newton of Amarillo; sister, Linda Thrasher of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Chelcie and Brice Bonham; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
