Charles Stanley Johnson, Sr., 82, of Happy, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Happy Church of Christ with Rick Bloodworth officiating.
Charles was born on June 24, 1943 in Eddy, Texas to James and Hattie Mae (Sodas) Johnson. He married Roxie Jean Taylor, and they were happily married for 62 wonderful years.
Charles farmed and ranched in the Happy area for many years. His work was his life and left little time for anything other than loving his wife and raising his six sons. His family was vitally important to him, and although he didn’t often say, ‘I love you,’ he was very faithful in showing his love to his family. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished spending time with them. He enjoyed music and his family will lovingly remember hearing him sing his favorite songs: “Kiss an Angel Good Morning” by Charlie Pride and “Funny Face, I Love You” by Donna Fargo. Being baptized many years ago by Brother Bill Looney, he was a longtime member of the body of Christ.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, and a son, Jamie Scott Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Roxie Jean Johnson, of Happy; five sons, Charles Johnson, Jr. and wife, Amy Marie of Canyon, Kenneth Dale Johnson of Tulia, Edward Johnson of Corpus Christi, Patrick Johnson and fiancé, Fran Adel Armstrong of Altus, OK, and Gaylen Johnson and wife, Melinda of Canyon; eight grandchildren, Melanie, Jennifer, Clint, Derek, Jerami, Abigail, Beau, and Brennan; 8 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Gloria Lewis of Grants, NM and Ruby Arden of Hale Center, TX.
