Charles Brasher

Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 10 at the First Baptist Church of Amarillo with Dr. Howard Batson, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Graveside service and interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 11, 2015. Charles Albert Brasher was born March 17, 1938 in Canyon to Thomas and Huvelle Jordan Brasher. He married Treasure Ann Kees on September 5, 1959 at the First Baptist Church of Dumas.Upon graduation from WT in 1961, he went into partnership with his father in the Phillips wholesale dealership Brasher Oil Company in Canyon. When his father retired, he retained sole proprietorship of the business until the early 1970s when he sold it to Richardson Oil Company. At this time he began a career in accounting, setting up customized bookkeeping systems on the new desktop computers that were becoming available. He also owned and managed a number of rental properties in Canyon. He was ordained a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Canyon in 1967. After retirement he founded a repair ministry at First Baptist Church Canyon that remained active for many years. After moving to Amarillo in July 2014, he began a similar ministry at First Baptist Church Amarillo. After becoming a Gideon, he was active in the Canyon Camp. He served in almost every elective office in the local camp. He assisted in Bible distributions at West Texas A&M University each semester and in many of the local public schools. In 2002, the Canyon Lodge No. 730 A.F & A.M. awarded him a "Community Builder" award to recognize his "distinguished service and personal contributions to the community of Canyon, Texas." He had a lifelong love of woodworking and honed his skills after retirement by restoring furniture and antique sewing machines. He finished a new 5-piece cherry bedroom suite in 2014 before they moved into their new apartment at Park Place Towers in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, William Thomas Brasher. Survivors include his wife of 55+ years Treasure Brasher of the home; Daughter Cynthia Lynn Baker and husband Barry of Canyon; Granddaughter Becky Baker of Amarillo. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the First Baptist Church Amarillo, 1201 South Tyler Street, Amarillo, TX 79101-4296 or to the Gideon's Faith Fund, Gideon's International, Box 2304, Amarillo, TX 79105-2304.
