Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Rev. Steve Olsen, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Mausoleum. C. C. Stewart was born on September 2, 1914 in Spanish Fort, TX to Walter and Etta Boutwell Stewart. He moved to Dawn from the Nocona, TX area when he was 10 years old. He married his high school sweetheart, Willie Lois Harris, on August 22, 1935 in Hereford. They were married 61 years before she preceded him in death on June 4, 1996. C. C. spent his early years as a farmer and rancher in Dawn and moved to Perryton in the early sixties where they owned the Great Plains Motel. He returned to Canyon in 1967 and worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Buffalo Lake Wildlife Refuge in Umbarger until retirement in 1986. He will be remembered for his devout faith and Christian values. He was a loving husband, dad, and grandfather, who enjoyed fishing, camping, and many special family times. He became a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon in 1967 and was a member of the Golden Spread Coin Club. He was also preceded in death by his wife"s six sisters and one brother and their spouses, and a brother, Raymond T. Stewart. Survivors include a daughter, Dorotha (Scotty) Woodman and husband, Jake, of Canyon; a son, Buddie D. Stewart and wife, Janie, of Seoul S. Korea; three granddaughters, Krista Thomson and husband, David, of Tulia, Lt. Kristina Stewart, USAF deployed to the Middle East, and Katie Stewart, Seoul S. Korea; one great granddaughter, River Thomson; one brother, H. R. Stewart and wife, Hazel, formerly of Dawn, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to the C. C. Stewart Memorial Fund at the First Baptist Church, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
