Bobby G. "Pete" Odom, 85, of Happy passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior Thursday, August 24, 2017. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Happy with Rev. Tom Stribling, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon. Pete was born July 31, 1932 to Carl Ervin Odom and Martha Maud Adams Odom in Kress, Texas. He graduated from Happy High School in 1950 and farmed and ranched in Swisher County most of his life. He married Joann Elaine Patching on August 21, 1954 in Happy. A veteran of the US Army, Pete served during the Korean War. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Happy and the Swisher County Historical Society, Pete loved studying history. He did a considerable amount of research on the Comanchero Trails. An avid hunter and dog trainer, he served as a founding member of the Texas Panhandle Hunting Retriever Club. Pete took a personal interest in all of his boys' passions and hobbies and made many of their friends feel like his own kids. Grandad attempted to teach his grandchildren everything he knew from the time they arrived in this world. In addition to his parents, his two brothers preceded him in death, Carl Odom, Jr. and Billy K. Odom. Survivors include his wife, Joann; three sons, Neal Odom and wife, Bev of Wellington, Kevin Odom and wife, Karen of Lubbock and Kyle Odom and wife, Tricia of Happy; six grandchildren, Nicholas Odom, Kristen and husband, R.A. Brown, Zachary Odom, Jack Odom, Mackenzie Odom and Craig Odom; two great grandchildren, Trey and Kaylee Brown; two sisters in law, Dixie Odom of Maxwell, NM and Ruth Odom of Mesa, Ariz; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be to the First United Methodist Church of Happy Building Fund, PO Box 56, Happy, TX 79042 or to Home Delivery Meals (Meals On Wheels), 619 SE 2nd St., Tulia, TX 79088.
