Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough and Bob Shepard officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery, Happy, Texas. Billy Donald Looney was born February 27, 1926 in Willard, New Mexico. He was the sixth child born to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Looney. He was reared in Dublin, TX and graduated from Dublin High School. He was an outstanding athlete lettering in football and basketball. He went to work for Paso Tex Pipeline Company (Chevron) after graduation, in Baytown, TX . He wanted to join the Navy but the Navy was not accepting enlistments. He joined the U.S. Army and was inducted July 25, 1944. He was stationed in the Philippines and fought in the Battle at Luzon. He received the following honors and medals: Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, good conduct medal, Army of Occupation Ribbon, Japan, Victory Ribbon, two overseas bars and honorable discharged August 10, 1946 as S/SGT, Troop D, 8th Cavalry. He was recalled during the Korean Conflict and served time at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. Bill met Billie Ann Morgan in Dublin, TX. She was attending high school and he was back in town. She and two of her girlfriends had heard there were guys in town so they went to a basketball game. Bill had to decide between the three girls whom to choose and he chose Ann. Bill asked Ann out everyday for the next week. Bill came home for a football game between the exes from DeLeon and Dublin. Bill and Ann had been dating three months. Bill played the first half of the football game and then married Ann at halftime on December 27, 1946. Bill and Ann had their first son, Terry Dale, born in 1948. Bill attended Lee College and played basketball and graduated June 1955. Their second son, Gregory Don, was born in 1956. Bill attended Texas Western College (UTEP) and graduated in August 1966 with a degree in Bachelor of Business Administration. He worked for Chevron for 26 years. Bill was baptized in Carlsbad, NM while attending church with his wife. After many years being active in church and serving in leadership he decided to go into full time ministry. Bill was a dedicated Christian. He entered the ministry in 1969 and retired in 2002 after 33 years. His first ministry was at the Church of Christ in Happy, TX. He was a minister in Tahoka, Brownfield and retired in Snyder, TX. He helped start the prison ministry in Snyder after TDCJ built a prison unit there in 1992. After retiring he moved to Canyon, TX to watch his grandkids play sports. He moved to Weatherford, TX for two years to enjoy being with his son and grandkids there then moved back to Canyon, TX. Bill loved his family, friends, preaching the gospel, the prison and jail ministry, and a perfect day of golf with his buddies and a good steak afterwards. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eula Looney, brothers, Doyle Looney, Bob Looney, and Newell Looney, sisters, Ouida Roden and Toka King, and infant brother, Woodrow Wilson Looney. Survivors include his dear wife of 67 years, Ann Looney; two sons, Terry Looney and his wife Diana of Weatherford, TX and Greg Looney and his wife Terri Looney of Canyon, TX; a sister, Clenna Spencer of Benbrook, TX; five grandkids, Tara Laminack and her husband David of Weatherford, TX, Trey Looney of Weatherford, TX, Kobe Looney and his wife Laura of Hutto, TX, Kali Peddy and her husband Jared of Canyon, TX and Tori Sills of Canyon, TX; and six great grandkids, Anson and Jayton Laminack, Julia and Gabe Looney and Daxon and Maddox Peddy.
