Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 30, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Crump, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Bill Thomas was born on January 1, 1929 in Canyon to Lynson and Mary Thomas. He was a graduate of Canyon High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 101st Infantry during the Korean War. He married Rita Kay Rodda in California on July 4, 1958, and she preceded him in death in 1987. Bill was a carpenter and home builder. He loved woodworking and refinishing furniture 'old style' and some of his workmanship is found in the WTAMU Library and Panhandle Plains Historical Museum. He also enjoyed gardening, mowing, guns, and reading, and loved the companionship of his labs. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and VFW Post 430 in Canyon. Bill was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his children, Doug Thomas, Leslie Bates, Susan Cook, Scott Thomas, and Jeff Thomas; ten grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Guthrie; and his best friend, Stan Crump. The family suggests memorials be to the VFW Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758, Canyon, TX 79015.
