Betty Clark Morrison, 90, died peacefully and quietly at home on Sunday afternoon, January 4, 2015. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Canyon at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 8, 2015. Betty was the youngest of six girls of the family of Dallas and Susan Clark. The Clarks originally arrived in Texas shortly after the turn of the century, and came to the High Plains in the 1920's. Betty attended the West Texas Demonstration School and credited her experiences and the teachers at WT with her lifelong love of literature and learning. She remained a strong supporter of WTAMU until her death. She was an active and prominent volunteer in Canyon and the Texas Panhandle for decades. She was a past President and Member of the University Study Club in Canyon, and cherished her years of volunteer work with the Federated Women's Clubs of Texas. She was a member and Past President of the Auxiliary of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, as well as a longtime member of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Society. Betty was an active volunteer and bible study teacher at the First Baptist Church in Canyon where she called her church home. She especially loved her years in ministry of children and youth at the church. Betty was a founding member, and a lifelong volunteer for the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation. She and her husband Gene were among the first families in the Panhandle to contribute funds and work to create what is now the "TEXAS" Musical Drama and the Pioneer Amphitheatre in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Her work in support of the show spanned six decades. At the time of her death she was busy participating in the planning of the 50th Anniversary Season of "TEXAS." She now joins the fellowship of her many family, friends and her beloved husband of 61 years, Gene, in heaven. She is survived by her son Gene Vaughn and his wife Cheri, and her Grandson, John David Morrison and his fiancAC.e Kaylee Keith. The family suggests any memorials be directed to the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, Inc., 1514 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, or the First Baptist Church of Canyon Missions Fund.
