Betty "Fig" Jane Ray

Betty Jane Ray or "Fig", 64, of Amarillo, passed away on August 29, 2022.

Vigil will be held at 6:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Brooks Chapel with Father Phil Lindley as celebrant. Mass will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral in Amarillo with Father Tony Neusch as celebrant. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 A.M. at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon.

Betty was born on January 1, 1958 to Pete and Catherine Fischbacher in Canyon, Texas. Betty was a farm girl at heart who had a strong work ethic and spread joy in the world by helping others. She had many jobs throughout her life, including, caring for several elderly people. Most recently, she worked for Amarillo College for 20 years. The first 10 years she spent at Central Receiving and the rest she served as a mail clerk. She was always eager to help any lost student or staff member find their way on any of the campuses. In 2013, she was honored as The Classified Employee of the Year. Betty retired from Amarillo College on January 31, 2019. Betty was a devote Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo for over 40 years. Betty enjoyed being outside and especially loved to mow. She took great pride in making sure the lawn was weed free. She was married to her loving husband of 42 years on August 23, 1980 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Canyon. She was the most awesome wife a man could have. "Aunt Fig" was a special aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She always enjoyed playing games and catching up with them at family events.

She was preceded in death by her father, Pete, and brother-in-law, Randy Weston. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Ray; her mother, Catherine; her siblings, Sue Weston, Joann McDonald and husband, Donnie, Ken Fischbacher and wife, Anita, Rhonda Melugin and husband, Terry, Patty Frerich and husband, Danny, Debbie Bigelow and husband, Randy, and Jim Fischbacher and wife, Tracy; two Godchildren, Britney Starr and Garrison Fischbacher; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, 1828 Mustang St., Amarillo, TX 79102, BSA Hospice of the Southwest, 5211 SW 9th Ave., Ste. 100, Amarillo, TX 79106, BSA Harrington Cancer Center, 1751 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106, or to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1200 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79102.
