She graduated from Franklin High School in Portland, OR in 1943. She married J. B. Godwin the same year while he was on leave from duty in the Army Air Force. She worked as a nurses aid until she attended NWT School of Nursing in Amarillo and later received her degree as a Medical Assistant in Colorado Springs, CO. She loved nature, music, writing poetry and quilting, but her great love was nursing and compassion for others. She was very strong in her faith and was eager to share this with others. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, and a grandson, Kenny Bryan. A special thanks to the staff at Legacy Nursing and Gentive Hospice, all of Amarillo. She is survived by a son, Carl Godwin, of Amarillo; two daughters, Joycelyn Moore and husband, Larry, of Happy and Carolyn Ellis-LaTouf, of Terrell; grandsons, Todd Bryan and wife, Dawn, and Dennis Bryan and wife, Stephanie, all of Happy; and five great-grandchildren, Seth Bryan and wife, Whitney, Maci Bryan, Kole Bryan, Karson Bryan, and Kenna Bryan. The family suggests memorials be to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, Box 56, Happy, Texas 79042.
