Bettie Jean Everitt

Bettie Jean Everitt, 88, of Amarillo, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022. Services will be at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, October 17, 2022 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Craig Albracht, pastor of Hillside Christian Church West Campus, officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery.
Bettie was born January 17, 1934 in Randall County, Texas and was the third daughter of C.R. "Hap" and Audrey Lee Hancock. She resided near Arney as a girl and could frequently be heard sharing tales of the one-room schoolhouse there before it was lost to a fire.
After graduating from Happy High School, she was a clerk for Retail Credit Company for many years while married to Charles Z. Moore, who helped her create a wonderful legacy of family with their three children.
She later married John Everitt in 1977 and they spent thirty-eight blissful years together before he preceded her in death in 2015.
She loved her tribe of kids and grandkids fiercely. Bettie Jean was also well known for her incredible sewing, knitting and crochet skills. She was frequently found at a sewing machine or with her knitting needles and crochet hooks in her hands.
Her longest-held membership was with the crew called "The Aunts," or "That Other Grandma" from which any child at any of the humongous family gatherings could rely on any one of the six sisters to give cooking advice, sweets, hugs, or a handmade craft.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Clyde Hancock, her sister, Deloris "Jackson" Hancock, her daughter, Melony Zea Swasey, her son, Doug Moore, as well as her grandkids: Eli Moore, Brian Everitt, Pete Stewart, and Mandy Etheridge.
Survivors include her sisters, Billye Waldron of Strafford, NH; Charlotte Morris of Littlefield, TX; Carrolee Waters of Amarillo, TX; Sue Lilley of Little Elm, TX; a son, Max Moore and wife Vicki, of Sanford, TX; grandchildren Josh Moore and wife Christine of Alamogordo, NM; Abe Moore and wife Juliett of Alamogordo, NM; Nicky Moore of Amarillo, TX; Cody Craig and wife Niki of Amarillo, TX; Jackson Swasey of Lake Worth, TX; and Amber Jolley and husband Bengy of Amarillo, TX; as well as eleven great grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
